NHS Isle of Wight have won the Silver Medal at the CMO's Public Health Awards 2010 for its 'Pharmacy Fix' application highlighting the contribution of community pharmacy in its Hepatitis B and C programme for injecting drug users, which led to further developments including HIV and syphilis testing. As a result of the programme's success community pharmacists have become part of a collaborative effect in two further vaccination programmes - seasonal flu and H1N1 vaccination for the under 5 age group and there is potential for this model to be extended to integrate pharmacists into the childhood vaccination programme.
The Chief Medical Officer’s Public Health Awards acknowledge the efforts of all those working to improve the health of the nation and celebrate innovative and successful initiatives that have made an impact in public health in England.
The LPC congratulates the PCT and the pharmacies who made this possible; Kevin Noble (Community Pharmacy Lead at the PCT) and Gary Warner (PEC member, LPC member and Island contractor) warrant special recognition for their efforts. |
